Our special guest will be ex Air Force Colonal Howie Short: 

Howie Short retired from the Air Force as a colonel following a career which began as an enlisted air traffic controller and spanned more than 30 years.  Following Officer Training School and flight training as a combat rescue helicopter pilot, his career path encompassed a combination of staff, command, and flying positions where he accumulated over 2,700 flight hours.  Commands included an Expeditionary Rescue Squadron in Kuwait City, a Special Operations Squadron, vice Wing Commander, and the Commander of The Ira C. Eaker College for Professional Development.  During his final assignment, he directed world-class technical training and professional continuing education to Air Force, international, and other Department of Defense personnel. Composed of eight schools, they included: the Commanders' Professional Development School, the USAF Chaplain Service Institute, the Air Force Judge Advocate General School, the Defense Financial Management and Comptroller School, the Air Force Human Resource Management School, the USAF Historian Development School, the International Officer School, and the USAF First Sergeant Academy.  Each year the college educated more than 9,000 students in classrooms and more than 2,400 via distance learning or exported courses.Following retirement from the Air Force, he taught Air Force Junior ROTC for a year, and then became an online faculty instructor for the newly established Air Force Air Command and Staff master’s degree program.  For the past three years he has taught leadership courses to captains, majors, and Department of Defense civilian students enrolled in this online program from around the globe and in multiple war zones, plus serves as a mentor for newly assigned instructors.  His career is filled with leadership challenges, experiences, and successes…and leadership perspective, development, and mentoring are his specialty.  Do not miss this opportunity to hear his reflections on timeless leadership wisdom learned from a career in training, education, and combat environments.

Compassion Katy

 Who we are...Compassion Katy exists to serve the body of Christ by bringing churches together to serve our community.    

What we do… We are an information portal that connects volunteers with different volunteer opportunities from several nonprofit service providers in the Katy area. This is accomplished through out website, networking with area Churches and other Church and community information outlets.  

Twice a year we hold a major work event called Katy ServeFest.  Many churches and businesses partner together every year to make these events more successful.  Through Katy ServeFest, we put into practice our mission statement by working side by side with members of many churches to meet needs in our community. 

 

October 16, 2010 is our next Katy ServeFest event.  We are actively seeking additional partners to join with us to make Fall Katy ServeFest 2010 an incredible event that touches our community for Christ.
